How to Celebrate the Chinese New Year During a Pandemic

16 Jan 2022

The Chinese New Year is a widely celebrated festival, usually ranging from January 21 to February 20. The first day of Chinese New Year in 2022 falls on 1st February - that’s just two weeks away! Chinese New Year is definitely the biggest holiday Singaporeans look forward to every year. Never let the Covid-19 pandemic down your festive mood, there are still plenty of opportunities to celebrate the Lunar New Year with family and friends within safe measures.

The reunion dinner, also known as Tuan Yuan Fan (团圆饭), is a gathering of family members on Chinese New Year’s Eve to reaffirm love and respect to one another for the year ahead and beyond. Why not bring in a Smashing New Year with them by smashing chocolate pinatas!

Year of the Tiger Chocolate Piñata
A chocolate pinata is great with both adults and children. Yes, even adults! Our Year of the Tiger Chocolate Piñata is adorably shaped after the zodiac animal, with a bold orange chocolate shell, edible fondant cap, ears and cat features. Select your secret surprise from chocolate candies to fresh cream cake and even hide your red packets within.

The adorable set of 6 cupcakes feature handcrafted fondant firecrackers, cherry blossoms, Chinese lanterns, Fu (福) and chocolate gold coins and ingots.Mahjong Cupcakes

Thinking about your Mahjong pals and your weekly late night sessions with beer and snacks? These Mahjong Cupcakes will be a cute perfect reminder of the endless Mahjong sessions pre-pandemic. The Mahjong Cupcakes feature little edible Mahjong tiles and buttercream frosting. With multiple smaller celebrations with relatives and friends still possible, why not keep food light and simple with bento meal takeaways and sweet desserts?

A popular way to celebrate CNY is definitely having a steamboat gathering, and you know how big and savoury those can be. Our top favourite places for a steamboat are Little Sheep Hotpot (小肥羊) and Hai Di Lao (海底捞). What about yours? We reckon the perfect way to close the night is with a delicious fluffy cake!
